There is a visible nod to Persian Miniature style of painting, but applied with egg tempera, a medium not commonly use (or not used at all) for the confection of traditional miniature paintings. The refinement that Watercolour can achieve in these type of miniatures is of a impressive finesse, whereas the emulation of some sort of art related to the master-artists of the East using oily yolk and kitchen vinegar is an obvious recipe for failure. Nevertheless, the adventurous endeavour of playing with tempera in this format brings to light an interesting result (that can be better appreciated in these detail shots), and the layering of glazes of paint provide a depth that lacks from Watercolour and it is notable from tempera.
